Photo EXIF upload validation

Pick a photo the way someone reporting a hazard would, and this page reads the photo's embedded details — its GPS location and camera bearing especially — right in your browser. The real app uploads the file untouched, so whatever shows here is what our system would receive. We're finding which combinations of device, browser, and photo-picking method keep the location data intact.

1 · In-browser location test

Checks the location your browser reports for this device right now — the same source the app's map pin would use, not the photo's own data. Heading only appears while you're moving, and accuracy drops to kilometres if you grant "approximate" rather than "precise" location. Nothing here is saved — it's just a quick GPS check.

2 · This device

We've prefilled these from your browser — please correct anything that's wrong. They're attached to every result you export below.

3 · How to pick so location survives

  • In the photo picker, tap Options at the top and switch Include Location on. It defaults to off and resets on every upload, so please set it each time (iOS 17 and later; older versions don't offer it).
  • Or tap Browse → Files and choose a photo saved there (such as the control images below) — photos opened through Files keep their location.
  • Taking a photo with the camera button likely won't carry GPS. This is expected, but please try it anyway so we can confirm.
  • Please try each of the picking methods below. On iOS, image/* re-encodes HEIC photos to JPEG, while extensions only may avoid that.
Test images — download these, then pick them through the buttons below

These have a known location (−33.8688, 151.2093) and bearing (135°) baked in. Save them to your Photos and/or Files (on iOS, long-press a link and choose "Add to Photos" or "Download Linked File"), then pick each one through the buttons below. If even these lose their location on a given method, that method is stripping it.

4 · Pick photos & results

Each button picks photos a slightly different way, and a preview appears beneath it. Set the source on each result — it's highlighted amber until you do. Remove any row with ×.
